What is Ashtanga Yoga?
For those that aren’t familiar with Ashtanga, but have a strong Vinyasa Practice, you’ll likely be fine (if occasionally confused).
Ashtanga is a fun and aerobic sequence of postures (asanas)that are linked together through breath and movement.
The series always begins with Surya Namaskara A and B, followed by standing postures, with backbends and inversions, a seated sequence, and a finishing sequence, concluding in Savasana. The practice also includes Pranayama, Meditation and a bit of lecture and explanation, depending on the type of Ashtanga class being offered.
In general, Ashtanga Yoga is designed to develop strength and flexibility, improve balance and coordination, and increase focus and concentration.
